You probably are already familiar with the tastiness and some of the health benefits of drinking matcha. Matcha is essentially green tea leaves that have been milled into a fine powder, so when you drink matcha, you’re consuming tea leaves too. Because matcha powder mixes into almost anything, it’s actually an incredibly versatile ingredient that can be used to make all kinds of drinks and desserts!
Matcha green tea latte recipe - Ingredients
To Make the Perfect Matcha Green Tea Latte:
Ingredients
- 2 tsp matcha powder
- Some hot water
- 1 cup milk (regular, soy, almond, etc.)
- Sugar (optional)
Sift 2 teaspoons of matcha powder into your favorite cup or tea bowl, making sure to get rid of any clumping. You can use your tea scoop or a regular teaspoon to push some of the powder through the sieve.
Add a bit of sugar or sweetener to the matcha powder. We like to use 1 teaspoon of sugar, but feel free to adjust to your liking.
Add a small amount of hot water into the cup, just enough to make a thick mixture. For the best fragrance and flavor, make sure the water is not boiling (about 90Cº).
Mix well until smooth. You can use a chasen bamboo whisk, or a regular teaspoon for this step. Set aside.
For a warm and ice matcha green tea latte
For a warm matcha latte:
In a saucepan, warm up the milk slowly over low heat. Stir every so often and make sure that it doesn’t boil.
For an iced matcha latte:
The iced matcha latte is wonderfully refreshing and tastes just as great! To make it, skip this step and add cold milk straight into the matcha mixture.
If you have a milk frother, you can use it to froth up the milk and give it a nice foamy texture, but this step is optional.
Pour the milk carefully into the cup. The concentrated matcha will mix easily with milk. Add a little dusting of matcha powder on top to finish it off, or add in a few ice cubes to make your iced matcha latte extra cool. Enjoy your tasty matcha latte!

Drinking matcha is definitely good for you, but sometimes we like ours a little more decadent! If you’re up for some experimentation, here are some of our favorite toppings that will really elevate your green tea matcha latte into something special.
Matcha whipped cream:
If you have some whipping cream on hand, add a teaspoon or two of matcha powder and sugar, and give it a whisk! Perfect for adding to an iced matcha latte.
White chocolate:
Add some shavings on top and let them melt into a warm matcha latte for a creamy, chocolatey treat.
Boba or tapioca pearls:
There’s no limit to what you can add when you’re making a matcha latte, so feel free to experiment with different flavors and combinations, and you might just discover something new!
